Where does the Amazon River end?

The Amazon River, which has its beginnings in the South American country of Peru, ends by pouring into the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil, near the city of Macapa. The river is about 4,000 miles long.
From the Amazon alone flows about 20 percent of the world's fresh water that pours directly into the oceans. With greater than 200 tributaries joining it at some point along its journey, it has more water than any of the world's rivers. Because of the large volume of water that flows into the Atlantic at the mouth of the Amazon, both the tint and the salt content of the ocean is affected for about 200 miles.
