The average litter size for a golden retriever is eight puppies. Litter sizes vary from four to 12 puppies, and humans are not usually needed for help in the birthing process.
Golden retrievers are friendly and intelligent dogs that live for about 12 years. They are medium to large in size, growing 23 to 24 inches in height, and they weigh up to 67 pounds. They shed heavily and must be groomed frequently to prevent their fur from matting. The coat of the golden retriever can be any shade of cream, gold, red or mahogany. Their undercoat is water-repellent and very thick.
