The median annual salary for paralegals was $46,990 in 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 2012 pay range for this profession was approximately $29,420 to $75,410. Pay varies by industry, law firm size and geographical location.

The job outlook for paralegals is above average as compared to all other professions, states the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS expects the profession to grow by 17 percent between 2012 and 2022. As law firms work to decrease costs, they may choose to use more paralegals and fewer lawyers, resulting in an increased demand for paralegals.

The top employers of paralegals are governments, law firms, and finance and insurance corporations.
