The longevity of French manicures can be extended by applying a thin coat of clear nail polish daily to protect the polish. Keeping the hands away from soap and water also helps protect the manicure; wear gloves for washing dishes. If a manicure chips, filling in the tips immediately with white nail polish and a top coat of clear polish can extend the manicure's life. In an emergency, correction fluid can be used instead of white nail polish.
