What types of clothing do Brazilians wear?

Brazilians wear clothing influenced by African cultures, colorful shirts and ponchos, wide straw hats and colorful jewelry. Each area of the country has different fashion trends.

Traditional Brazilian clothing includes ponchos, bombachas and boots. People living near the Amazon River tend to wear tunics and, in Bahia, the women wear African clothing with brightly colored scarves. In the more urban areas of the country, people dress in a more contemporary fashion. Jeans are one of the most popular clothing choices in the large cities.

Along with unique clothing, many people in different areas of the country also use face and body painting as a form of self-expression.
