The world's biggest breed of dog is the Great Dane. As of 2015, a Great Dane named Zeus, who stands 44 inches high at the shoulders, holds the world record for largest dog.

Great Danes generally reach a height of 28 to 34 inches as adults, and they can reach weights of 100 to 200 pounds. The American Kennel Club first recognized Great Danes as a breed in 1887, and they are the 15th most popular dog breed. The ancestors of modern day Great Danes were much more lightweight, but breeding with English Mastiffs created the large specimens seen today.
