The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world, taking up over 60,000,000 square miles of the world's surface. It is equal in size to all of the land on the planet and covers approximately 21% of the surface of Earth.
The Pacific lies between Asia and the Americas, averaging a depth of 13,215 feet. It houses the Mariana Trench, which contains Challenger Deep, the deepest point on the earth at approximately 35,840 feet below sea level. The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean, followed by the Southern Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. Altogether, about 71% of the earth is covered by oceans.
