Where do blue egrets live?

Egrets are confused with herons. Great egrets are white and are different from the great blue heron. Egrets live throughout the United States during migration, in South America in the winter and in the Caribbean year-round. Blue herons can be found throughout most of North America, and they prefer coastlines.

There is, however, a pure white form of the blue heron that is found in Florida and the Caribbean. Great egrets are tall wading birds found along both freshwater and saltwater habitats. Great blue herons have a greater body size and wingspan than egrets. Both great blue herons and great egrets prefer placing their nests in high trees and have a lifespan of about 15 years in the wild.
