CNN Travel refers to the people of Singapore as Singaporeans. In a review of the city, the news outlet mentions that the majority of Singaporeans speak English, thanks to their country's long-time former status as a British colony.
Singaporeans are also known to speak a complex creole known as "Singlish," consisting of elements of the Queen's English, a number of dialects, including Cantonese, Bengali, Teachew, Punjabi and Hokken and bits of Indic, Sinitic and European languages, according to the CNN Travel report. Many Singaporeans refer to each other, and even foreigners, with familial terms, including uncle, auntie, brother and sister.
