Can dogs eat brown rice?

Brown rice is considered a healthy and safe treat to feed a dog. Brown rice is high in protein and in fat than white rice, and is a good source of magnesium and selenium. Brown rice helps promote weight loss in dogs and helps soothe an upset stomach.

Many veterinarians recommend incorporating whole grains, such as rice and oats into a dog's diet to reduce risk of heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity. Grains are recommended to be fully cooked, and introduced slowly into the dog's diet. Dogs sometimes prefer the texture of white rice when first eating grains.
