Can dogs eat papaya?

Dogs can safely eat papaya. They can eat papaya seeds, too, but many do not like the peppery-flavor of the seeds. Papayas are an excellent source of antioxidants, B vitamins and electrolytes.
Papayas must only be fed as an infrequent snack or treat to dogs. Being carnivores, they have no inherent need to eat fruits and can have difficulty digesting them.
Papayas are a melon-like fruit, native to Central America. They have a thin skin and a yellow-orange flesh. They are noted for containing the enzyme papain, which breaks down tough meat. It is used in food preparation to tenderize meat. Therefore, when papayas are eaten with meat, it can aid in digestion.
