Can fleas live in your bed?

Fleas have the ability to live in furniture, such as beds, while in the larva and pupa stages. The flea larva feed off of adult flea excrement, dead skin cells and feathers.

Flea eggs are deposited on to bedding from pets such as dogs and cats. The eggs take up to 2 weeks to hatch. The hatched larva look like tiny worms and eat any available organic material. They do not like light, making bedding an ideal place for them to live and mature. After three larval stages, the larva weaves a cocoon where they stay for 1 to 2 weeks. At this point, an adult flea emerges from the cocoon and finds a blood source, be it human or animal.
