According to petMD, Amoxicillin is safe for dogs; however, pet owners should not give the drug to their dog without first consulting a veterinarian. Amoxicillin is most commonly used for the treatment of bacterial infections in cuts, wounds, the skin, the bladder, the upper respiratory system and the mouth.
Too high of a dose of Amoxicillin can cause serious health issues, according to PetCareRx. Do not give Amoxicillin to a dog that is hypersensitive to penicillin or to a dog with a viral or parasitic infection. It is stable in gastric conditions, so it is safe to administer Amoxicillin with or without food. A veterinarian should always be consulted before giving an animal any medication.
