Azaleas are well-suited to container growing. Choose a pot with feet and at least one small hole in the bottom; this will ensure good drainage and prevent root rot. Line the bottom of the container with small rocks, then fill with a mixture of soil and peat moss.
Dig a hole in the soil that is twice the size of the azalea root, but make sure that the top of the root ball is level with the container's edge, HGTVHOME advises. Azaleas prefer dappled sunlight or a shady patio spot. Use rainwater to irrigate whenever possible, because it is less alkaline than tap water. Re-pot the container azalea every two years in clean soil.
