According to the National Gardening Association, jasmine can be grown in a large container using regular potting soil. You should keep in mind that over-watering or allowing the container to become too dry will cause the buds to drop. You will need to re-pot your jasmine plant every 3 to 5 years.
Additional tips to growing jasmine in a container include:
- Jasmine needs to be kept outside in the summer because it needs bright, indirect light.
- You should keep the soil evenly moist.
- You should fertilize with a blooming houseplant food (according to label directions).
- Winter jasmine and Italian yellow jasmine are not suited for containers. However, common jasmine, which is also known as confederate jasmine or poet's jasmine, can be grown in containers.
