Zucchini can be grown in containers, according to Ohio State University's Department of Horticulture and Crop Science. The containers must be placed to provide the plants at least eight hours of sunlight each day.
The container should be at least 12 inches in diameter and height to accommodate the plant's large base. The container must have drainage holes to avoid rot from excess water, and the holes should have a screen covering to prevent the soil from washing away. In the first half of May, zucchini seeds can be planted directly into the containers and covered with about one-half inch of soil.
