Can hairspray make you lose your hair?

Contrary to popular belief, the use of hairspray does not contribute to hair loss, according to U.S. News & World Report. Gels, shampoos and frequent hair washing do not lead to hair loss either. However, teasing hair or using curling irons can accelerate hair loss.

Men's Health actually recommends the use of hairspray for men with thinning hair. Hairspray does not weigh hair down, and it can create volume when sprayed on the underside of the hair. To create volume, hold the hairspray can about 8 to 12 inches away from the hair and cover the hair in a fine mist for extra control.
