Can humans use dog shampoo for their hair?

According to The Daily Puppy, dog shampoo is generally safe for use on humans though some people may experience rashes, itching, allergic reactions and other side effects. Some pet shampoo products, such as Pet Head, are suitable for human use.

Human skin is three times as thick as the skin of a dog, says The Nest Pets column. That means that it is safer for humans to use dog shampoo than it is for dogs to use shampoo formulated for people; however, The Daily Puppy notes that dog shampoos often contain tick- and lice-killing chemicals, such as pyrethrins, which can cause respiratory problems and rashes in people.
