Can you legally change your birth date?

A date of birth cannot be changed unless there is proof that the birth certificate was falsified or misprinted. Birth registration correction applications are available at the register office where the birth was originally registered or at the General Register Office. The process for changing the date varies between states.
Birth registration corrections may only be made when the information (such as a parent's occupation) is wrong. Although a change may be made regarding a child's first name, the surname cannot be changed. If a gender change is approved, a new birth certificate is issued containing the original information, as well as a note in the margin dictating the changes.
