Pictures of kidney stones can be found on WebMD.com, as well as some health books, and other places on the Internet. Around 80 percent of all kidney stones are calcium-based. Other types of kidney stones are made of struvite, uric acid or cystine.

Kidney stones form inside the kidneys and, in many instances, form when urine becomes concentrated. This allows the minerals to crystallize and stick together. They range in size from as small as a sugar crystal to as large as a ping-pong ball. While painful, small kidney stones can pass while urinating; larger stones, though, may require surgery.
