According to the Mayo Clinic, hydrogen peroxide is sometimes needed when too much ear wax builds up and blocks the ear canal. The Mayo Clinic recommends using a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, baby oil, mineral oil or glycerin twice daily for four to five days. In addition, the ear should be irrigated with water to removed the softened wax, according to the Mayo Clinic.
