It is possible to renew an expired Nigerian passport while overseas but not to replace a stolen or lost passport. The Nigerian government gives instructions on how to renew a passport depending on its type and the country in which the citizen receives it, states the Nigeria Immigration Service.

It is possible to submit the renewal application online, but the citizen must appear at an appointment at the Nigerian Embassy in the selected processing country to prove his identity, according to the Nigeria High Commission. He must present his expired passport during that appointment. The government handles replacements for lost or stolen passports only in Abuja, Nigeria.
