Can you tell by the VIN if your GMC is part of a recall?

It is possible to enter the Vehicle Identification Number of a GMC vehicle into the text field at recalls.GM.com to determine if it is currently part of a recall. This works provided that the recall in question was announced on or after August 20, 1999.
Once General Motors issues a recall announcement, it can take several days before GM employees are able to enter the VIN of every affected vehicle into the database used by the GM Recall Center website. Therefore, if an expected recall repair does not appear after submitting the VIN into the text field, check the website at a later date to see if it was updated.
