A moonshine still can be used to make any type of liquor. This includes vodka, gin, vermouth, grappa, tequila, mezcal, schnapps, rum, rye whiskey and baijiu.
The term moonshine is used to describe corn whiskey made and sold without taxes being paid. A moonshine still is illegal in many parts of the United States and the rest of the world. A still is used to distill the alcohol from the fermented corn mash. The principles of distillation are the same no matter what type of liquor is being made. Rum is made from fermented sugar cane pulp while mezcal is made from the fermented juice of the agave cactus.
