Women are able to pull groin muscles, according to Women's Physicians and Surgeons. Some pulls happen during athletic activities, including running, skating and playing basketball or soccer. They can also occur during daily events such as moving heavy objects or falling.
Symptoms of a groin pull, or strain, are frequently sudden and are often accompanied by pain and a snapping sound in the area of the leg or hip, explains Women's Physicians and Surgeons. Sometimes, swelling and bruising occurs soon after the injury, but other times, they do not appear for days. In certain cases, strains are caused by stress over a period of time. The area is overused during repeated daily activities.
