What are CEREC crowns?

A CEREC crown is a restorative dental crown dentists design and manufacture with computer systems. It allows dentists to design, produce and fit crowns in a single appointment rather than over multiple appointments. CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEramic REConstruction.
When creating a CEREC crown, a dentist uses an intraoral camera to acquire the necessary images from a patient in order to design a 3D model of the crown with the aid of a computer. Using a milling machine or a 3D printer, a dentist can then produce the CEREC model in-office and directly fit it to the patient's tooth.
