On Chinese New Year, many Chinese eat foods such as spring rolls, longevity noodles, fish and dumplings. Each of these foods is thought to bring luck to the person who eats them.
The Chinese eat a variety of fish during their New Year celebration. Catfish, crucian carp and Chinese mud carp are popular choices. When serving and eating a fish, the head should be placed toward distinguished guests, and anyone dining on a fish must wait until the distinguished guest has eaten the head.
Chinese legend says that the more dumplings a person eats during the New Year celebration, the luckier he will be.
Spring rolls look like gold bars and are eaten as a wish for prosperity.
