Who chooses the 2015 Oscar nominees?

Oscar nominees are chosen by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which encompasses over 7,000 current and past filmmakers and film professionals. New members are invited by the Board of Governors, and applications for potential new members are evaluated by the executive committee each year.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has several branches, and Oscar nominees are selected by voting members from each branch. All members vote for nominees for the Best Picture category. Following nominations, all Academy members vote by ballot for their choices in all categories to determine the Oscar winners.
