How do you clean a brass eagle oil lamp burner?

To clean a brass oil lamp burner, use a mix of sodium bisulfate, a Brillo pad, a sealable container, a blow dryer, steel wool, metal polish and lacquer finish. Ensure the oil lamp is actually made of brass before cleaning to avoid damaging the lamp.

1. Take the lamp apart

   Take off the fuel cap, globe and burner. Set the fuel cap aside.

2. Soak the burner

   Mix one cup of sodium bisulfate with warm water in a sealable container. Submerge the burner and lantern in the mixture, and seal the container. Let them soak for at least 24 hours.

3. Scrub the lantern and burner

   Take the burner and lantern out of the solution, and lightly scrub them with a Brillo pad. If the burner is not clean at the end of this step, repeat the second step until it is clean.

4. Rinse and dry the burner

   Dunk the burner and lantern back into the sodium bisulfate solution to remove excess rust or dirt. Dry the burner with paper towels first, then set a blow dryer on the lowest setting to dry the inside of the tank.

5. Polish the lamp

   Buff the lamp using steel wool, and brush it with a metal polish. Finish the lamp by coating it in lacquer to keep dirt off of the tank. Put the lamp back together.
