Colt 45 is not a beer; rather, it is a malt liquor manufactured by the Pabst Brewing Company. This amber-hued liquor is brewed in the style of American lager beers. It contains mated barley and corn extracts to give it a smooth, full flavor.

Colt 45 first hit the market in 1963, packaged in 45-ounce bottles. It later became available in 12-, 16- and 24-ounce cans and bottles. It is renowned for its "kick," which comes from its alcohol content of 5.61 percent. Colt 45 was named for Jerry Hill, who wore number 45 for the Baltimore Colts in 1945.
