Common excessive celebrations in football include spinning the ball, dancing, military salutes directed at the opposing team, verbal taunting and spiking the ball. Others include throwing the ball, spiking the ball, the "home-run swing" and celebrating while standing over opposing players.
Just prior to the 2013 season, the NFL reinforced its stance on excessive celebration, warning teams that players would be subject to penalties when taunting opponents by spinning the ball, according to NBC Sports.
Per league rules, excessive celebration infractions incur a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The penalty applies during the kickoff if the incident occurs after a touchdown.
