The building of the Costa Luminosa cruise ship, part of the Costa Cruise Line, began in October of 2007 at the Marghera Shipyard in Venice. The ship took her maiden voyage in June of 2009.
The Costa Luminosa, which can carry 2,826 passengers, was christened on the same day as the
Costa Pacifica. The departure of these two ships set a record as the first instance in which two ships were christened at the same time. After this ship was built, she joined Costa Cruise Lines as the 13th ship in its fleet. She typically cruises in the Mediterranean in the winter and in the Caribbean in the summer.
