Waco, Texas is in McLennan County. Waco is the county seat, and in 2013, the city's population accounted for slightly more than half of the residents of McLennan County.

Waco lies in north-central Texas, on the Brazos River and along Interstate 35. Educational institutions in Waco include Baylor University, Texas State Technical College and McLennan Community College. The city derives its name from the Huecos, or Wacos, Native American people who lived there. McLennan County, one of 254 counties in Texas, occupies an area of 1,060 square miles. It is named after Neil McLennan, an early settler in the region.
