Where does a cricket live?

Crickets live anywhere in the world except for Antarctica. There are 120 species in the United States. They live in the earth under logs, leaves, rocks and debris.

Some crickets enter a human home and consume paper, silk, cloth and food. They tend to prefer dark, damp areas of the home where they reproduce. Homeowners are most likely to find them in the basements, bathrooms and laundry rooms of their homes.

Not all crickets prefer to make their homes in damp areas. The Jerusalem cricket finds dry climates ideal. This is why this species of cricket is nicknamed the "sand" cricket.
