What degree is a sand wedge?

While there are no official values attached to each club in the game of golf, sand wedges tend to bear a loft of about 55 degrees. As its name implies, such high-lofted clubs are designed for getting the ball out of sand bunkers.

The loft of a club is the angle of the face in relation to the shaft and may vary slightly across manufacturers. The typical loft values for irons 4 through 9 are 25, 28, 31, 34, 37 and 41 degrees, respectively. The nominal lofts of pitching wedges, gap wedges and lob wedges are 45, 50 and 60 degrees.
