Why did Erika Flores leave Dr. Quinn?

Erika Flores left "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" to pursue other interests. After she left the show, she auditioned for other parts in movies and on television, but her primary reason for leaving the show was to pursue her educational career.

CBS asked Erika Flores to sign a five-year contract, and Flores left the show after this request because she did not want to make this time commitment to the show. The show's regular cast members were required to sign five-year contracts. The show's producers attempted to offer Flores additional salary to stay on the show, but Flores declined.
