Monica and Shannon Brown married on Nov. 22, 2010, in a secret ceremony held at their home. The couple officially announced their marriage on January 21 the following year and held another wedding in the presence of family members in July.

Monica met Shannon Brown in June 2010 when he appeared in the video for her song "Love All Over Me." They became engaged in October the same year and married a month later. Their daughter Laiyah Shannon Brown was born on Sept. 3, 2013. Monica had been previously engaged to rapper Rodney "Rocko" Hill before parting ways in early 2010 and had two children with him, Rodney Ramone Hill III and Romelo Montez Hill.
