The RMS Titanic left on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton, England. This was its only journey, as the ship sank on April 15, 1912, five days after its departure.
At the time of entering service, the Titanic was the largest passenger liner in the world. The sinking of the Titanic after colliding with an iceberg led to the death of more than 1,500 people. It is considered one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history. The naval architect of the ship, Thomas Andrew, lost his life in the sinking. The ship was owned by the White Star Line and was registered in the port of Liverpool.
