Are there doctors who still make house calls?

There are doctors who still make house calls; however, most doctors are not willing to make house calls for multiple reasons. Additionally, there are doctors who will only make house calls for special cases.

In the early 1900s, approximately 40 percent of doctor visits were house calls. Since the late 1900s, the vast majority of medical care has moved to hospitals or doctors' offices. Reasons for the decrease in house calls is likely associated with increased specialization, convenience, lack of insurance coverage, equipment, and financial feasibility. Over the past few decades, the number of doctors willing and able to do house calls has started to increase. The prevalence of house calls is especially high in geriatrics.
