Where does fertilization take place in humans?

According to WebMD, fertilization occurs in the fallopian tubes of women. An egg travels through the fallopian tube after ovulation. If a sperm cell is present, it may fertilize the egg, and the resulting zygote moves to the uterus where it implants and begins to grow.
Each month women have the chance to get pregnant if their reproductive organs are healthy. Women ovulate every month approximately two weeks before their period. During ovulation an egg begins to grow inside of the ovary. The egg eventually leaves the ovary and enters the fallopian tubes. Here it may be fertilized. If it is not fertilized, then menstruation occurs.
