What does "Fibonacci" mean in math?

In math, "Fibonacci" refers to a sequence of numbers generated using the following equation. The Fibonacci sequence starts with 1, 1, ... and each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two in the sequence, ergo 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and so on.
Examples of the Fibonacci sequence occur throughout nature. Bee family trees assume the shape of a Fibonacci sequence. Furthermore, many plants develop in patterns that follow the Fibonacci sequence, from pine cones to pineapples to the seeds on flower heads. One interesting property of the Fibonacci sequence is its relationship to the golden ratio.
