The first Super Bowl was played on Sunday, January 15, 1967, when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10, at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. Green Bay led 14-10 at halftime before pulling away for the easy win. Packers quarterback Bart Starr was named Most Valuable Player.
The game was officially called the AFL-NFL World Championship in 1967 but was renamed Super Bowl I when the NFL officially adopted the Super Bowl name. The game was the result of a merger agreement between the NFL and the rival American Football League. From 1960 to 1966, the two leagues played separate championship games.
