Since 2002, the Super Bowl has taken place on the first Sunday of February, with only one exception. The 2003 Super Bowl, played in San Diego, California, took place on Jan. 30, 2003.
Between 1981 and 2001, all but four Super Bowls took place during the final week of January. Super Bowls during prior years took place earlier in January. The earliest date on which the NFL championship game ever took place was on Jan. 9, 1977 when Pasadena, California, hosted the 1977 Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl. The latest game was the 2010 Super Bowl on Feb. 7, 2010 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
