Where is the Ganges River located?

The Ganges River flows across Northern India towards Bangladesh. Its source is located high in the Himalayan, mountains and it empties into the Bay of Bengal.

The Ganges is the longest river in India at over 1,569 miles in length, and it descends some 12,769 feet from its headwaters in Uttarakhand state towards the river mouth at Gangasagar, West Bengal. The river has the second largest water discharge in the world, and more than 400 million people live within its basin.

Hindus regard the river as a sacred and purifying force, and it is said to be the physical embodiment of goddess Ma Ganga.
