The Murray River is located in Australia and flows through three states: Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. It is the third longest river in the world directly after the Amazon and the Nile Rivers.

The Murray River is over 2,000 kilometers long and begins in the Upper Murray in Kosciusko National Park. In the 1800s, the river was used as a water highway and was a large part of Australia's import and export economy. As of 2014, the river is still used for trade routes, fishing and recreation and as a water supply. The river brings water to more than 1.5 million homes throughout Australia.
