According to TheHealthBenefits.com, Gatorade is good for athletes and physically active people. It replenishes the body with water and electrolytes lost during strenuous activity. Gatorade is made with water, fruit flavoring and electrolytes.
TheHealthBenefits.com explains that electrolytes include sodium, chloride, potassium, bicarbonate, calcium and phosphates. These substances keep muscles and nerves functioning. They also help the body rehydrate by improving the rate of water absorption.
Gatorade was created in 1965 by the University of Florida as a sports drink for its athletes. Made in a variety of flavors, it was named for its mascot, the Gator. It was first called Gator Aid, then renamed Gatorade.
