GEICO is an acronym for Government Employees Insurance Company. The insurance firm originally targeted customers in the military and those who worked for the government.
Now GEICO provides insurance coverage to a wide range of consumers, not just those who work for the government or members of the armed forces. As of 2014, GEICO insures over 22 million vehicles across the United States. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, a large investment corporation owned by Warren Buffett. Due to the wide popularity of its advertising campaigns, GEICO is one of the most easily recognizable insurers in America, as of 2014.
