What does USO stand for?

USO stands for United Service Organizations. The USO is a nonprofit, private organization that is not part of the United States Government. However, the USO is recognized by the Department of Defense, the U.S. Congress and the President, who serves as the USO's Honorary Chairman.

The mission statement of the USO is to lift the spirits of America's troops and their families. The group originated in 1941 when several organizations banded together to support the growing U.S. Military when it became obvious that the United States was about to enter World War II.
