There is a 2-year term for the governor of Vermont and New Hampshire, while the other 48 states all have a 4-year term. Many states have changed the length of the term a number of times throughout history.
The length of a term for a governor depends upon the state. As of 2014, 48 states all have a gubernatorial term lasting for 4 years. This means that every 4 years the state holds a gubernatorial election. Two states, however, still have a term limit of only 2 years. Vermont has had its 2-year term limit since 1870 and New Hampshire has had its since 1878.
