What is the highest point on the East Coast?

The highest point on the East Coast is Mount Mitchell, which rises 6,684 feet above sea level. The summit lies in Yancey County, northeast of Asheville in western North Carolina.

Mount Mitchell, which is the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains, is located off the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and lies partly within Mount Mitchell State Park and partly within Pisgah National Forest. The summit is dominated by pine, spruce and balsam trees, and wildflowers are abundant in the summer months.

The peak was named after University of North Carolina professor Elisha Mitchell, who first determined the height of the peak in 1835.
